Two Sides

I am sure most of you have heard about the Troy Davis execution last night.  Yesterday the internet was all abuzz about the entire situation and I figured I better weight in with my thoughts.

I can understand why people are upset about the execution.  Yes, there does not seem to be a whole lot of evidence that Davis actually committed murder.  Unfortunately, he went through the system and none of these courts have found any proof that he was given an unfair trial.

I do not think he should have been executed.  I am not saying that he is innocent, but since the only real proof was another witness (who most likely could have been the killer) then I do not think you can have an execution.

This does not mean I am against the death penalty though.  The jack-ass in Pittsburgh (Richard Andrew Poplawski) who killed three police officers should be executed.  Pretty much anytime you are caught killing someone or there is overwhelming evidence, the death penalty should be used.

Also, I am pretty sure there are certain individuals who should be executed.  In fact, I think child molesters or serial rapists should just be taken out behind the woodshed and put down like the animals they are.  I mean, look at this story and tell me this guy deserves to live.  He tortured and raped a girl, and to top it off he set her on fire.  Yeah, he seems like a decent guy.

Well those are my thoughts.  Feel free to give me your thoughts.

Breaking Anarchy

This week's episodes of Breaking Bad and Sons of Anarchy were both very good.  Well, one was great, the other was good, so when you average that out, it comes to very good.  See, simple math.  Some of the highlights and low points of each.

Breaking Bad
-Walt Jr. hates his new car.  Goes to visit his dad, unfortunately Walt is in a world of pain after getting the crap kicked out of him by Jesse.  Walt opens the garage door looking like my old man in his underwear.  Seriously Walt, buy some boxers.

-Walt pretty much screws up and calls his son Jesse.  Oops, that is one way to get your kid to love you more.  Also, has there ever been more proof that Walt Jr. could take a bullet and no one would miss him?

-Jesse is completely bad-ass during his trip to Mexico.  When the cartel chemist (Chloe's husband!) gives Jesse crap, he completely turns it around and sounds like Walt.  He says they will not cook until the lab is cleaned exactly to his liking.  And naturally, he adds a bitch in there to give it style.

-Turns out that Gus is supposed to give the cartel Jesse.  Mike hints to Jesse that either they are all heading home, or no one is going home.  Then Gus presents a bottle of expensive alcohol to Don Eladio, everyone does a shot (we see Gus taking some pills and staring at the pool where his brother died--was it really his brother, or gay lover?) and a little while later, everyone dies.  Gus then yells out to the rest of the people that the Don is dead and people should take whatever they want and not try to fight with him.

-Does this mean that Gus now controls the entire Mexican meth market as well?

-The only down-side to the episode was Skylar (shocking).  She has Saul concoct a story so she can give Ted the money to pay his back taxes.  Then, Saul informs her that Ted used the money to lease a new Mercedes and he is planning on opening his business back up.  She confronts Ted and then tells him that she gave him the money.  Ugh, again, if Gus cut her head off with a box-cutter, no one would mind.

Sons of Anarchy
-Allow me to start with my one complaint:  The whole Vivica thing was a little weird.  She protects the neighborhood and her boys bought the guns?  If this is just a one time thing, I am okay with it, but if for some reason she keeps popping up as some kind of player in the area, I will be annoyed.

-Are we finally seeing Clay crack?  He does not respond well to Gemma when she asks him about the coke.  Also, he can never just be honest with people.  I loved Bobby's look when he lied to the Indian chief about the bullets because Bobby realizes that Clay's word means jack-shit.  Especially since Clay tells Bobby that if he backs the coke, when he retires, he will turn over the gavel to Bobby.  He already told Jax he would give it to Opie.

-I liked how Gemma handled Tara.  Instead of doing her normal nosy thing, she just asked Tara about the letters.  She then told Tara all about how much she loved JT and it hurt her when he went to Ireland to be with Maureen.  She seemed genuine about the whole thing.

-I loved what Opie told Jax:  (paraphrasing) "I will back you and Clay on this, but when he retires and you are the president, you and I are going to get this club back to what it was meant to be."  You could see that Jax is hurt because he hates lying to Opie, but maybe he is not so hurt, maybe he will stay around with Opie to build the club his father and Piney set out to create.

-What the hell is the sheriff trying to do?  Threatening Juice that the club will get rid of him if they find out he is half black?  Just seems a silly way to go, but I am sure it will pan out.  Maybe Juice should talk to Jax.

-The other thing that I have a problem with this season:  how will they ever get out of their connection with the cartel?  This is one of those things that if they do this for a year and get a shit-ton of money, they cannot just call Romeo and say "hey, we have decided to retire from the coke game."  They will be killed or forced to do it for lesser pay.  Seems like Clay has no real exit strategy this time.  Or maybe he does, he shocks me sometimes.

The clouds went away

Innocuously tucked away in the changelog for Minecraft 1.8 was this little item:

Cloud height raised to the top of the map, so clouds no longer go through buildings.

In other words, the clouds are now up in the sky, and we can't touch them. They'll always pass over our heads.

I started writing irregular Minecraft posts on my blog about a year ago. I remember how awesome it was when I finished my first tower. It had been a pain in the ass to build, what with the creepers blowing everything up, but I still remember how it felt to look down on the clouds from my tower:

In another tower I built, I had specifically sited the ceiling of my bedroom just above cloud level, so the ceiling would be periodically obscured by cloud. Of course clouds don't really behave like that, but what the hell, I liked it.

That's all in the past now, and it makes me genuinely sad. Far more sad, in fact, than I would have believed. I've always been fascinated by clouds, and I loved the notion of building such a tall tower that I could literally look down on the clouds. And now I can't any more, because... I don't even know why. I can't think of any good reasons for doing this.

For that matter, I'm not playing until the Endermen are fixed; Notch admitted it was "a horrible idea" to make them carry blocks, and I agree. Not only can they potentially destroy anything you've built, but right now, they can move bedrock. I don't feel like having constructions I've invested hours of effort in be taken apart.

For the first time, I'm totally bummed out by Minecraft. Hopefully there'll be an update soon to fix things.

Fantasy Baseball Week 24 and Fantasy Football Week Two

Baseball
And just like that, my season is over.  Offord defeated me 6-5.  Congrats  Offord on fifth place.  Way to go me for sixth place.  I would like to point out that while it was close, most of my team sucked, minus Ryan Braun and Justin Verlander.  They pretty much tried to win this week by themselves.  Braun hit .455/.455, with six runs, four HRs, and seven RBIs.  Verlander won two games, with twelve Ks, 0.00/0.93.  Pretty impressive guys.  Also, these two picked up via trade, so obviously my draft skills suck.

Ryan is taking on Dave in the finals, as James battles Imler for third place.  I honestly do not care what happens at this point.  I hope everyone wins.

Kevin's League
I beat Earthurriquakeacane! 129-124, which was the second highest score for the week and I took over first place with the only undefeated record.  Michael Turner and Jahvid Best had great games, but Jamaal Charles got hurt.  I picked up Pierre Thomas for next week.

Speaking of next, I take on Couch Potato Hero's and as of now the match-up projection does not look good for me.  Although, he still has Dez Bryant and Michael Vick, and either one could sit out this week.

Steel City League
Six stitches!  Jesus, I haven't been raped like that since my prison days...157.90 to 82.46.  That is pretty much an ass beating right there.

Most of my players underachieved, or in Dez Bryant's case, he did not even play.  Also, the Arian Foster may have hurt his leg some more, so who knows how that will go for me.  My best player was Matthew Stafford.

This week I take on Hurricane Arians, and he is projected to beat me, but one can never rely to heavily on those things.

Worst New Movie Poster of the Week

(Official movie poster for upcoming movie Abduction.)

WHY THIS POSTER SUCKS!:

*Besides the film's title and tagline, nothing else about this poster relates to/hints at the movie's plot.

*Taylor Lautner's character doesn't even look in character- the up-close shot makes it worse--- it looks like a up-close shot of Lautner.

**A better poster would be Lautner's character's face on the cliched, milk carton.
Or, Lautner's character eating breakfast in the kitchen with his fake family and a milk carton with his face on it is in the trash- or on the table- but placed so only his family sees it, or the viewer.

(Alternate poster for upcoming movie Abduction.)

WHY THIS POSTER SUCKS!:

*The poster's scenario looks too implausible for a teen- it also just looks badly reproduced as a whole.

**A better poster would be Lautner's character about to jump from a rooftop to another rooftop--- with police force helicopter lights shining all around him.

Sexy Movie

If you told me that Thor, Raylan Givens, Nikki from Lost, and Leeloo Multipass were all in one movie, I would probably respond:  "wow, that must be the sexiest movie ever."  I would most likely rush out and buy the movie and watch it over and over.

I think you can see where I am going with this, right?  The other night I watched A Perfect Getaway.  Ugh, what a shitty movie.  It actually started alright, Steve Zahn and Leeloo are on their honeymoon in Hawaii.  They run into Thor and his girl, who want a ride, but they pass because they seem a little crazy.

Later, they run into Raylan and Nikki.  They seem like a good couple, and it allows them to get away from Thor and his girl since they now seem to be following them.  As the two couple hikes together, they hear about some murders on the islands and the police believe the killer may be on this island!  Again, not too bad, typical slasher film right?

Steve uses his phone to read about the murders and sees a blurry picture of the killer.  He believes it to be Raylan, that coupled with the fact that Raylan tells plenty of crazy stories about how he was an army super-soldier, almost died in a plane crash, and basically keeps saying that he is tough to kill.  He also goes hunting with a bow and kills a goat, which Nikki is able to professionally gut.  Needless to say, Steve and Leeloo are frightened.

The police come and arrest Thor and his girlfriend as the murderers because they found some teeth in their backpack.  Also, someone tipped them off.  Later Nikki is going through Leeloo's camera and she realizes the horrible truth!  UH OH!  Raylan and Steve are taking a trip to the sea caves!  AHHHHH!

Yes, it turns out that Steve and Leeloo are the killers.  Soooooo, all the scenes where Steve is freaking out reading about the murders, it turns out HE WAS THE KILLER!  Why would he and Leeloo have a conversation about Raylan and Nikki possibly being the killers, if they were in fact the killers?  This was just so stupid.

Although, it did fulfill that great idea of what would happen if some serial killer attacked some actual bad-ass.  Turns out, Raylan was not kidding.  After getting shot in the back of the head (which the bullet bounced off because of his metal plate), he chases Steve down and beats the crap out of him.

Also, it turns out that Steve and Leeloo are drug-addicted murderers.  I have no clue what drugs though, I think Steve tries to say that Nikki is on crystal meth, but it is he is on drugs as some EMT realizes by his enlarged pupils.  If these two are so addicted to drugs, would they really be able to hide it for so long?  Obviously none of the writers ever watch Breaking Bad.
