Don Saying What
This video is not hilarious, but it is still pretty cool. It is Don Draper saying what. If you watch the show, you know that is his favorite response, especially to Betty's idiotic questions. I wonder if the character is written that way or if Jon Hamm just tosses that in there?

The Huffington Post: My Crush on Finland: A Country That Values Its Teachers
So as much as I tried to dismiss Finland for its differences, one factor just kept standing out: the quality of the teaching force. Teaching is a very sought-after profession, allowing for the selection of some of the best students to become teachers with most teachers being chosen from the top 10 percent of their college classes. It's both competitive and prestigious with only a small percentage of candidates being accepted to study as teachers. Teachers are respected, trusted and honored. And guess what else? Teaching is popular.
I really don't know whether to laugh or cry. On a wider note, it's funny how European countries are politicized in American politics. But seriously? Sought-after? You mean that in a country with massive academic unemployment, teaching jobs are sought after. Wow! We must really like teaching!
Excellent logic. Also, as Jim pointed out, if we really valued our teachers that much, you'd think we'd pay them.

On another note, Finnish people are funny in several ways. It's a general rule of Finnish public transport that when a passenger gets on a bus or train, they will do their utmost to avoid sitting next to another person. Earlier this week, someone sent a photo to MTV3 proving that we don't fear personal contact just on the bus. Here's a bunch of Finns waiting for a bus in Kulosaari, Helsinki:
Now THAT'S the kind of country this is!

I Will Save the World!
Recently, Lindsey had her little friend over for a few days, and this is not the type of little friend who has a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, if you know what I mean. Yes, I am referring to her period. Anyways, without sex for a few days, the brain is able to focus on more constructive things. I realized that it is such a waste of blood. Why not design some kind of tampon that saves the blood and you can take it to the Red Cross and deposit it into the blood bank.
I know, I know, this is really gross, but just hear me out. Since period blood is basically half a fetus (the unfertilized egg, whatever), it should be teeming with stem cells. I would imagine that if you get a transfusion from period blood, it would heal you almost instantaneously. I am sure there is some kind of science out there that backs me up.
As you can see from this photo, your old fashioned tampon is inserted into the vagina and then it does some stuff and a string hangs out. I guess it just absorbs the blood. I have no clue, I usually walk away when a girl tries to tell me about stuff like this.
Imagine the same basic concept, but more of a plastic tube, something like a test tube. It would have some tabs that go in first and when the girl removes it, the tabs automatically close.
I will leave it to the engineers and doctors to work on the details. I am no medical expert, but this sounds like a pretty sound idea. I do not even want money or anything, just the feeling I will get knowing that my idea is saving lives.
Here is a rough sketch of what my new and improved, life saving tampon would look like.
I expect a call from the Nobel people any day now...
True Grit
Are you as excited about this movie as I am? I had my doubts about The Dude playing the same role as The Duke, but after seeing that trailer...I am pretty damn pumped up. It comes out on Christmas day, so hopefully I can see it sometime right after that.
Happy birthday Aria!

Happy birthday!

This Weekend in Review

| Fact: there are shrimp in that glass. |
Friday
I got stuck at work until almost midnight. I then left and went to State College to meet up with Jason and Gideon. Yes, Gideon was down from the big city. I met them at Champs (actually Kacie and her boyfriend were there, who was finally nice to meet) and had a few beers.
Saturday
After that I went to my old apartment and slept there so that I could wake up and load my car up with more of my stuff. My mom came down and we also loaded her Blazer. Adam, Mom, and me finally went over to apartment and unloaded the stuff. We then went to Yesterday's Party, which is an Ebensburg bar. The place was pretty nice. It is actually pretty big and might be a fun place for Lindsey and I to go to toss back a few beers.
I then came home and took a nap because I had a splitting headache. I woke up and watched the Penn State game with Lindsey. I predicted that PSU would get beat pretty badly. I thought for sure Denard Robinson would have 500 yards total offense and the score would be about 56-31.
Wow, was I wrong. Well, Robinson had a great game, but Matt McGloin looked pretty damn impressive. He hit his spots perfectly. Although, Michigan's defense is absolutely terrible (not sure whose defense was worse). I was having a heart attack though at the end of the third and beginning of the fourth quarters when Michigan started coming back. Fortunately PSU held on and won the game 41-31.Sunday
I woke up and went into Ebensburg for a haircut. I got that taken care of and came home. I setup the surround system with a new fiber optic audio cable I purchased. I can definitely hear the sound difference.
After that I put all my clothes away. In fact, I went through and folded all my ties, which made me realize that I have way too many and most of them are old and ugly. I need to take a bunch of them to the dry cleaners. I just need to find one here in the Eb.
I then sat here and watched the Packers/Jets game. And watched my fantasy team. Almost all my players went during the 1:00 slot. I am really starting to hate Dwayne Bowe. I start him the first few weeks and he scores like three points per game. I don't start him and he goes for over 20. Last week I did start him and he scores 20 again. This week, I chose him over Brandon Lloyd. Lloyd goes for 22, Bowe goes for seven. He had like sixteen yards...ugh.
Lindsey came home from work and we decided to drive to Westmont so she could clock how long it takes to get there. We then went to Home Depot for some stuff and then went to Panera Bread for dinner. We came home just in time to watch the Steelers/Saints game.
That game pretty much sucked. Lindsey and I both wore Heath Miller jerseys, which she thinks caused Heath to fumble that ball. I think it was just a nice hit. I did make a comment during the Penn State game that Penn State and the Steelers both suck at goal line situations.
After the game I watched The Walking Dead premiere on AMC. Oh my! It was amazing. So many scenes came straight from the comic book. The great thing though, is that the show can do things the comic could not. The scene where Rick is walking down the hospital stairs and it is dark and he has to keep lighting matches was very suspenseful. I kept waiting for a zombie to jump out. You cannot build that kind of tension in a comic. The ending was also pretty sweet. Rick get swarmed while inside a tank, while also getting made fun of by Glen. Obviously he will make it out okay. There are so many crazy moments in the comic and I keep wondering if they will be able to show them on AMC...oh well, I guess we will have to wait and see.
New Vegas: First impressions
.jpg)
Fallout: New Vegas is like Fallout 3, only better. The engine has been tweaked, the world is huge, and there's a lot to do in it. The beginning is a bit sketchy, but once you get into the spirit of the thing, this game will eat up every second of your leisure time. It's awesome.
I love it. Well done, Obsidian. And it's only crashed once!
